The crosscourt rule
Crosscourt = more court, lower net and no sidelines. Switch down the line only with the right ball.
Geometry
- The diagonal is longer (~1.4 m extra) and the net is lower in the middle.
- When you hit crosscourt, your recovery to the middle is shorter.
- Down the line changes direction and opens the court, but crosses the high part of the net and leaves a crosscourt gap for your opponent.
When to switch down the line
- With a short or slow ball that lets you hit from inside the court.
- When your opponent is out of position on the crosscourt side.
- As an approach shot to come to the net.
To practice on court
Crosscourt until the short ball
Crosscourt rally; whoever gets a short ball may switch down the line and the point is played out.
Goal: Discipline and recognizing the attacking ball.
